- Clean Your Concrete
Depending on many factors such as exposure to leaves and debris, vehicle traffic and weather conditions, your concrete may do well to be cleaned with a power washer to remove build up and refresh its original appearance. When using a power washer be careful not to hold the spray too long in one area especially on exposed concrete as the cement between the rocks can break loose and the larger stones can be disbarred.
- Remove Stains Immediately
Your sealer will protect concrete from stain absorption however; oil, gasoline, grease and other spills should be cleaned as soon as possible. If your concrete has become stained you can try power washing or using chemical concrete cleaners to remove them.
- Seal. Seal. Seal.
The best way to maintain your concrete is to apply a sealer every couple of years. In our four-season climate your concrete gets all the extremes from heat to snow. Sealers protect your concrete from the elements and also brighten your concrete’s color and finish. Sealing takes only a short time to do and requires that you stay off your concrete for only 3-4 hours. We recommend you do this in the Spring or Fall.
- Remove Snow Properly
De-icing chemicals and salt can destroy your concrete. When snow comes, we recommend using sand and extra care when shoveling so as not to chip the surface.
- Watch Out For Pool Chemicals
Chlorine, salt and other harmful pool chemicals can affect your concrete pool deck. We recommend sealing every year to ensure that these chemicals do not affect your concrete’s look and vitality. You can also add a slip-resistant additive to allow for traction while keeping a smooth feeling underfoot.
- Help! I Have A Crack!
Even when an installer has followed all the proper guidelines and procedures, cracking can occur. While proper jointing procedures will control cracking in the vast majority of cases, even properly jointed concrete can crack in places other than the joints.
